Spring Update 2021 – Ōtākaro Orchard

Spring has truly sprung at the Otakaro Orchard and with the other workstreams our team is engaged with.

Despite the interruptions to the building industry due to Covid 19, we have been blessed with the Maiden Group team thinking ahead so we should not be held up by supply issues, our window frames are almost in and the orchard is looking amazing  If you get a chance pop down and see the new bridge it will enable easier access from the other side of the river connecting us with the rest of the incredible projects happening on this side of the city.

The fruit trees we distributed during the winter are all in the ground and blossoming, please help us continue this program next year by donating to our give a little (link).

Another successful Schools Hui went ahead at the Richmond Community Garden thank you to Chessa and Roz as well as Chris from the CDHB for putting this together, these huis are well attended and enable the teachers to learn new skills to take back to their school gardens.

Finally watch this space as we are about to install and plant out the first true living roof in the city, it is going to require over 200 cubic metres of special soil and 100’s of plants as well as a solar array that we recently won in a competition delivered by Lightforce. Many thanks to The Breeze and Lightforce for this.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to helping us finish up the year with lots of wins, we are looking forward to getting the building project finished and the space activated in the first quarter of 2022.
